Madman, Chapter 23
The telling of this life story began with a flashback to the first death of Anthony. After the demons who attacked Anthony turned to sand that drained out of the tomb, the African Boy stood over Anthony’s bloodied and lifeless body. He repeated, “today you join me”. At the African Boy’s command, the demons had just beat Anthony to death. Seconds before his skull was crushed, with his final breath Anthony surrendered his ego and called out, “My Love. My Savior.”
As his consciousness faded he heard the voice of Jesus for just the second time in his life. Jesus said, “I love you. I have always loved you.”
Then everything went black. Anthony became unconscious in the limbo between earth life and the heavenly death. The African Boy was pleased that Anthony had been such a good adversary. He rejoiced at remembering the battles and tricks they had played on each other over the years.
“Every man is a sinner, so every man serves me.” The African Boy smiled at Anthony’s lifeless form. The Boy continued to talk about their relationship. He said, “You may believe you have won this battle, but I, I will win the war.”
Anthony was dead. In his final moments Jesus told Anthony “I have always loved you.” The African Boy knew that the war was not over.
