Part Eight of The Narrow Gate
The Narrow Gate is an allegory in twelve parts. This is part eight.
Gregory nodded at the androgynous person and sought out a private spot to rest for a moment. He wanted Gordito’s feedback. Perhaps he didn’t know the facts in this strange land. He needed Gordito to confirm not only his purpose here but also the facts. Alone in a private area, Gregory asked Gordito for help. Gordito launched into a long explanation complete with pacing and gestures. Unfortunately, all Gregory heard were the squeals and chirps of a mouse.
Gregory sat in silent depression for several minutes. Then it came to him. Doctor Bentley said, “First, the signs must be factual.”
Signs is plural. The good Doctor didn’t say that each sign individually had to be factual. He ran back to the town square and found two people who were still contemplating their protest sign message.
He approached the first one. Grabbed a paint brush and asked, “May I?”
The protestor nodded and Gregory began painting “Now is When!”
“Snap man,” the protestor voiced his approval. Gregory asked the protestor to stand on one side of the square holding his sign. Then Gregory found another who hadn’t written a protest yet and again created a sign. This time he wrote, “Time is Stopped”.
