Part Nine of The Narrow Gate
The Narrow Gate is an allegory in twelve parts. This is part nine.
The Next Morning
When Gregory woke, he saw Gordito running through the grass near his head. Gordito collected small plants that they both could eat. Gregory tried to materialize a glass of juice in his outstretched hand. Gordito laughed when nothing appeared.
“Only in the magic forest.”
“I don’t understand all the various rules,” Gregory shrugged. “You speak but can’t always be heard. I can materialize my needs but only in certain locations. I’m going to need food and water. Your tiny morsels are not enough for a man.”
“Today we go to the dam.”
“Today, we go to the Big Foot community.”
“No.”
“Don’t the Big Foots live near the dam.”
“Yes.”
“Then let’s go.”
Gordito led a hungry and thirst Gregory back across the putrid stream and through the edge of the magic forest. The power of materialization had not yet returned so Gordito pointed out plants Gregory could eat. When Gregory reached to get more, Gordito stopped him.
“Not those.”
“I just ate these.”
