The Ancient Village

Gregory followed a dirt row between the plantings and across the cultivated field. He arrived at a wide dirt road. Once on the road, he headed away from the farmhouse. The winding road rolled through hills of cultivated fields. Eventually, it took them to an ancient village. They first came across a stone wall. Then they passed through a gate, the stone homes looked centuries old. No people were present. Passing a few rows of homes, they arrived in the town square.

The population of the entire town was in the square. There was every race, every hair style, every body type, and every sort of attire from no clothing nudist to those who wore several layers of heavy woolen jackets. Two things united the population of this village. First, no one appeared to be older than thirty nor younger than twenty. Second, every single person was diligently creating a protest sign. An individual would write a letter or a word and then hold the sign up in the air to consider their handiwork.

“So there are actual signs,” Gregory looked at Gordito who responded with a chirp. “Right. You’re speechless.”

As Gregory walked around reading the signs, he noticed that most of the protestors wrote original messages. A few copied…
