Part Six of The Narrow Gate
The Narrow Gate is an allegory in twelve parts. This is part six.
Gregory instantly dozed off when Gordito told him to sleep.
A crash on the other side of the screen made from living branches awoke Gregory. It was the darkest night he had ever experienced. He could not see his hands, nor the screen around them. He could feel Gordito shivering with fear on his right shoulder. He opened his mouth to speak but felt Gordito’s little claws digging into his shoulder. It was Gordito’s method of telling him to be quiet.
His eyes adjusted to the darkest night, and he saw a mild glow on the other side of the screen. The dull light wept from beneath the fur of what appeared to be a Big Foot. There was a tall, hairy, bipedal humanoid creature glowing with a soft gray-red light. Gregory became terrified. Gordito sensed the tension in his shoulder and rubbed it to comfort him.
He held his breath as the creature examined his screen. The hairy monster pushed against the screen and appeared to look directly in his face. Its eyes were both human and demonic. The irises flickered with a yellow flame. Gregory couldn’t believe a Big Foot was this close to him.
There was a crash in the forest not far away. The Big Foot stood up straight. A second, distant noise called the monster in that direction. When the crashes…
